Finishing things … almost impossible … when is it finished?
A creative process involves thinking … then you think of something that will improve it … add on another week or month or year … mmmmm.
But that’s OK! I’ve thought about it and decided that it’s OK. Its takes as long as it takes. I won’t feel bad any longer, for taking longer than I should. It’s just time.
A long time ago I remember apologising for not practising my piano – my wise old (90-year old) teacher simply said “Katrina, you have 24 hours in a day, just like everyone else. How you choose to spend them is your decision.” How could she be anything but right? The choices, however are mostly mundane and often made for me, being married, middle-aged with children and a dog.
But time must be spent, so I’ve decided to spend wisely, not wastey, and yes, part of that time may be spent making up words that fit my purpose, because I’ve decided that too is OK.
I’d like to be able to look back over the last week or month and monitor my time-spending. I might send myself a questionnaire on email, asking me to rate my experience from one to five stars, I might even put my name into a prize draw as a ‘thank me’ for taking the time to fill out the form. Although that might be considered wastey – I’ll take off a star for that. Anyway, I’ll try to make it more exciting by attempting to finish Mini Missions.
Mini Missions are the things I’d love to do if only I had the time.
Mini Missions can be anything … Things like … launch an app … write a musical … finish and publish one of my books … remodel every room in my home … write a song … make a pop video for said song … write a comedy show … be in a short film that involves me rolling sideways across the floor, shooting at baddies ‘a la The Professionals’ … discover muffins that make you lose weight … actually anything that takes my fancy at any point … any interesting suggestions from anyone … and anything that makes life happy. So – MMMMM – Mini Missions to Minimise Mid-life Mundanity. other Ms include – Musings, Mental notes, Marks out of 5, Messages and Memories.
